The Premier League returned to the field and there are already 4 rounds played so far. What the start of the championship told us is that this will be a very unpredictable season with a lot of surprises happening already and to happen in future in the most expensive league in the world.
The battle of the championship this season was predicted to be the same as the last season, a one between Liverpool and Manchester City. And yes, that is the most probable outcome. But, how these two teams started… Manchester City lost at home 1:5 by Leicester accusing them at the end that they played anti-football. However a total disaster happened to Liverpool losing by 7:2 at Aston Villa, which makes the question: are these two teams really the only title candidates?
On the other side there are teams that got a lot stronger in the transition period. You already guessed… Chelsea. This team spent around €250 millions to sign a plethora of young star footballers. This is the best transfer period in Chelsea’s history beating even Jose Mourinho transfer period in season 2004/05. Therefore Chelsea appears as favorite number 3 for winning the Premier League.
Arsenal… The silent giant this season. Arteta did a great job so far becoming one of the most talented and hot prospect young managers in the world. Learning from Guardiola now he is demonstrating a great deal of leadership and tactical knowledge. Arsenal did an awesome job in the transfer period having signed William from Chelsea for free and in addition to that they signed Thomas Party who was the transfer of the day before the period was locked. At the end is Arsenal a title favorite is too early to say but they will be much much better than we used to see them in the previous years.
Everton. Literally a team that can be the most pleasant surprise, but also the biggest disappointment. Carlo Ancelotti has put together a team that will probably make them a favorite against most of the teams, but the question is how the team will behave when it enters the matches as a favorite. James Rodriguez should bring additional quality to the team with which they will be involved in the fight for continental football, but who knows… At the end of the day Everton won all 4 games so far.
Tottenham and Jose Mourinho. One of the most trophy-winning coaches of all time, Jose Mourinho, is in a period of career in which he has to prove himself again. After the not so famous story at Manchester United, he takes over Tottenham, a team that, although it has been at the top of English and European football for the last ten years, is still not rejoicing at the trophy. If the Portuguese manages to bring a trophy for Tottenham, he will literally become a legend of the club, but if he remains without a performance in the Champions League, it will be another defeat in his career, which seems to be closer to the end.
Leicester. A team that must be involved in this elite division. They won a title as a total outsider and they deserve to be here. Last season they did great and missed the champions league spot in the last round. Anyways they are still a slight contender for the title.
Manchester United. Probably nobody believes that they can win anything after a poor start and a situation in the club that worries most of the fans. Nobody likes United’s director Ed Woodworth, many fans question Ole’s ability as a manager, and even the team captain is “out of the space” and team morale is low.
Final thought:
Liverpool and Manchester City in a close one. Those are the two teams that have squad depth and two of the greatest managers of all time. Slight advantage to Liverpool because of what they did last season and because the poor start of the season for Manchester City.
Liverpool FC all the way!
