The Washington Football Team hosts the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football to close out Week 12 of the 2021 NFL season. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN with both teams badly in need of a win to hang around the playoff race.
Seattle comes in off a 23-13 home defeat to Arizona last Sunday in their most recent contest, failing to cover as a 4.5-point favorite. Washington downed Carolina 27-21 on the road as a three-point underdog in their previous contest last Sunday. In the all-time regular-season series between the teams, the Football Team owns a 12-6 advantage though the Seahawks picked up a 20-15 road win in the most recent matchup on December 20, 2020.
Seahawks currently sit in last place in their division, somewhere they’ve never been this late in the season with Wilson at the helm. The Seahawks have never finished a season last in the division since re-alignment in 2002; they are the only team in the NFC West who can stake that claim.
The good news for Seattle is that its schedule sets up well for the rest of the way. The only remaining games against teams with winning records are divisional opponents — facing the Rams (7-3) and the Cardinals (9-2). The Seahawks will also face the 49ers, who are 5-5 and their non-divisional opponents — Washington, Houston, Chicago, and Detroit — have 10 combined wins this season (and two of the Bears wins have come against the winless Lions). The Seahawks have a chance to win games against lower-level competition and to get back into the divisional race by beating the teams ahead of them. Whether or not they can do it is another story, but the opportunity is there.
Washington picked up a second straight win, this time going down to Carolina and beating the Panthers 27-21. The win marked a victorious return to Bank of America Stadium for head coach Ron Rivera who was 76-63-1 in his tenure as head coach of Carolina from 2011-19. Washington had a balanced offensive effort led by Taylor Heinicke, who completed 16-of-22 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns. Antonio Gibson led a strong rushing attack with 95 yards on 19 carries. Defensively, WFT limited Christian McCaffrey to just 59 yards on 10 carries and did a great job of getting off the field on third down. Washington held Carolina to 2-of-9 in that situation, and that must continue if this team wants to mount any sort of second-half playoff push.
Final thought : We all agree that the Seahawks should win this game and that on paper have better team. But still i would not back them, because during the season we were wining while backing the in-form teams playing against “better” teams that have bad form. This is a case today. WFT beat no more no less but Buccaneers and Panthers, 2 in a row, while Seahawks lost by Packers with a scoreless performance 17-0 , and also got easily beaten by the Cardinals.
Prediction: Washington Football Team ML
