At the verge of the end of the playoffs with 1 game left to win for the Lakers to become champions for the 17th time we are about to present you how they managed to do that. Leading the finals with 3:2 against Miami, Lakers were driven by a combination of several factors that made them a team to be beaten. Representing you the 5 reasons why Lakers will become championship after 10 years break and after missing the playoffs for 7 consecutive seasons.
1. LeBron James
Vintage LeBron is playing his 17th season and everyone should be happy watching him while he is still in the game as many believe that there is not going to be any similar player to him, Kobe or MJ in the bright future. “Playoffs mode” on LeBron made him lead the Lakers through the playoffs to the finals with another close to triple double stats in every game so far.
Many pundits believed that Lakers gave up too much to get Anthony Davis in their roster. Yes they traded almost all of the young core they have been building for a few years to Pelicans for him but at the end it made the Lakers an instant contender. This guy is a highest caliber NBA superstar being DPOY and along with LeBron they are considered as an even better duo than Kobe and Shaq were in their prime era with the Lakers.
3. Frank Vogel
Finally this season Lakers appeared to make a great choice about the head coach position. Once again they didn’t need a high profile head coach, they needed someone who will work. And he did. What he brought to the team was a physical mentality and defensive edge. If you may remember last season’s Lakers defense. Also he guided the team through pandemic and Kobe’s tragedy as well. This is a strong guy that deserves as much credit as James and Davis.
4. Bench
The Lakers roster was filled with some veterans in addition to some of the young talents that haven’t been traded to Pelicans. The bench is a true and important part of every team success and Lakers bench delivered. Depending on which team they faced in the playoffs, from Portland, then Houston and Denver… When Vogel needed to change tactics, the bench delivered. When Vogel needed a big man there were Howard and McGee to deliver. Guards and shooters… say no more! Caruso, Kuzma, Morris and Rondo. Awww Rondo yes he is the reason number 5.
5 Rondo
From being a leader at Boston in his prime days back in 10s and one of the fierce rivals to LeBron James to becoming a part-time leader with the Lakers. Playing his second season for the Lakers, he recovered from an injury during the second round series of the playoffs while facing Houston. Since then he took his talents and experience to the team and led them in every aspect of the game when needed from him and believe it or not he did everything in the key moments. Having him in the team is definitely a real joy for his team mates. When James and Davis are expected to take the ball and score, they are well defended and covered and then it’s Rondo time. He definitely deserves credit for what the Lakers achieved.
