Kansas City Chiefs have endured a tough start to the season but last week’s big loss to Tennessee Titans will have caused some panic. Star QB Patrick Mahomes could not guide his team into the end zone as the Chiefs were restricted to a solitary field goal while allowing 27 points. The Titans managed to take a 0-27 lead into the half and knew the game was won at that point which is even more worrying for the Chiefs. They now take on New York Giants who come into this on the back of a win to improve to 2-5 but their injury problems remain a concern and while the Chiefs have failed to impress so far this year, they should be able to respond to last week’s horror show by coming out on top of this matchup.
The Chiefs lead the league with 17 giveaways. If Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes gives the Giants interception opportunities, Giants’ defenders actually have to catch the ball. We know that has been an issue too often so far this season. If the Chiefs put the ball on the ground, it has to be the Giants who come away with it.
The Chiefs have remained double-digit favorites despite their slow start to the season given the Giants still are struggling with injuries. Kansas City also gets the prime-time emotional bump on top of strong home-field advantage. The Chiefs lead the league with 17 giveaways. If Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes gives the Giants interception opportunities, Giants’ defenders actually have to catch the ball. We know that has been an issue too often so far this season. As we mentioned earlier, Jones has struggled to get the ball in the end zone through the air. One of the big problems for the Giants has been in the red zone; they are the worst in the NFL at converting red-zone opportunities into touchdowns at 45%. Only three teams in the league score touchdowns on less than 50% of drives: the Giants, Colts and Lions. This is good a matchup for the Giants to turn that mark around; the Chiefs are tied for fourth-worst at preventing red-zone touchdowns (opponents score TDs on 73.1% of drives that get inside their 20-yard line).
